Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Austin International Drag Festival/Foundation?

The Austin International Drag Festival (AIDF) is a yearly drag festival and conference that takes place in Austin, Texas that began in 2015 with the goal of providing platforms for all forms of drag, making our festival one of the most inclusive drag events that currently exist. AIDF purposely makes room for not just for drag queens, but also drag kings, nonbinary and gender-nonconforming performers, and all artists who do not fit the standard “drag queen” category. The Foundation that puts on this festival is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that is 100% volunteer-run. We have also had virtual iterations of the festival at the beginning of the pandemic with virtual Zoom-based drag festival programming.

Volunteers get a badge for the specific days that they will be working. Volunteers are divided by categories and there are only limited spots for volunteering due to high volumes of interest. More information to come as we get closer to the festival :~)

What COVID-19 protocols will be in place at the festival?

AIDF is aware that the pandemic is not over, and safety is our number one priority. Masks and hand sanitizer will be available at the hotel lobby/registration, and we encourage attendees and guests to maintain 6ft apart from each other. Some illnesses are invisible, so it is important for all participants of this year’s festival to make this as safe of an event as possible.
